Epic Games, Inc. (formerly called Potomac Computer Systems and later Epic MegaGames), is an American video game development company based in Cary (North Carolina), now associated with the Chinese company Tencent Holdings. They are primarily known for its Unreal Engine technology, which has boosted its popular series of Unreal first-person shooters and the Gears of War series, as well as the world-famous Fortnite.
Founded in 1991 by Tim Sweeney, who currently serves as CEO, Epic Games is the parent company of several developers, including Chair Entertainment, Psyonix and, more recently, Quixel. He has also launched studies in various countries.
