Tokyo 2020 medals were made with about 80 thousand tons of electrical equipment
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympic medals are unique in their kind. They will be the first made from recycled materials.
For the elaboration of the gold, silver and copper dams 78,985 tons of electrical equipment were used, of these, 6.21 million were cellular.
The materials with which these electronic equipment are made are necessary for the elaboration of the medals. Of the almost 80 thousand tons of electrical appliances, 32 kilograms of gold, 3500 kilograms of silver and 2200 kilograms of bronze (copper and zinc in this case) were extracted, according to the organization.
According to The Tokyo 2020 Medal Project, the accumulation of these recycled equipment in Japan began in April 2017 and culminated in March 2019. This time has been enough so that approximately five thousand medals can be minted for the next Olympics.
