The Witcher Spinoff Movie Will Focus On Vesemir, Not Geralt
The upcoming spinoff movie for The Witcher will center on Geralt’s mentor, Vesemir. Based on the novels and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher debuted on Netflix last December and its first season quickly became a massive success for the streaming platform.
Before season 1 had even debuted, The Witcher was already renewed for season 2, showing that Netflix was feeling very confident in their new fantasy series. Their confidence clearly paid off, as the series went on to become the streaming service’s second-biggest show of 2019, right behind their Emmy-nominated and beloved sci-fi series, Stranger Things. This was also exciting news for fans of Sapkowski’s work, as season 1 barely scratched the surface of the author’s first novel. Now, season 2 is currently in the works, but so is another project set in The Witcher’s universe. Hissrich recently revealed that Netflix will also be producing a Witcher anime movie titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and now more details about the film have come to the surface.
Per the description on Netflix, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will focus on Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor and father figure, rather than Geralt. The story will take place before he took on the role of mentor for Geralt, and will center on Vesemir as he “begins his own journey as a witcher after the mysterious Deglan claims him through the Law of Surprise.” No release date has been announced yet, but hopefully, an announcement will be coming around the corner soon.
Fans of The Witcher video games will also be familiar with Vesemir, as he helped train Geralt and aids him in hunting monsters throughout the game. Recently, Mark Hamill made the rounds in the news as a fan-casted choice to play Vesemir. Although that isn’t an official casting announcement, he would certainly be a fun addition to the already incredible cast. Both Hamill and Hissrich have since responded to the fan-casting, with the former expressing his interest in the part despite not knowing who he is. Hissrich has also expressed her excitement in the idea, remarking on how incredible it would be to bring the Star Wars actor into the world of The Witcher.
