Layoffs at Playful Studios: reduce their workforce "significantly"
Playful Studios has announced an internal restructuring process that involves the dismissal of a large number of its full-time employees. The North American team based in McKinney, Texas, has posted a message on their official blog where they know that the workforce will be “significantly” reduced as they are forced to change their production model.
Paul and Katy Drake, founders of the team, recently known for their work with Super Lucky’s Tale, have made known the “significant risks” they have taken in the past to grow the company, but recognize that to move forward this change is necessary in its structure. “We dared to dream big, and we worked hard to aspire to these incredible opportunities together with our friends,” they argue.
“The continuous changes in the global videogame market require Playful to evolve its development and production objectives in our current and future projects,” they comment. The decision, which they describe as “incredibly difficult” because of the relationship that they had with the employees they have been fired from, a decision that is effective this January 23.
