Fortnite is a video game of the year 2017 developed by the company Epic Games, launched as different software packages that present different game modes, but share the same general game engine and mechanics. It was announced at the Spike Video Game Awards in 2011.
Published game modes include Fortnite Battle Royale, a free game where up to one hundred players fight on an island, in smaller and smaller spaces due to the storm, to be the last person standing, and Fortnite: Save the world, a game cooperative of up to four players that consists of fighting against carcasses, creatures similar to zombies, using objects and fortifications.
Both game modes were released in 2017 as early access titles. Save the World is available only for Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while Battle Royale has also been published for Nintendo Switch, iOS devices and for Android.
