Daedalic: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is not in danger despite financial problems
The delicate financial situation of Daedalic Entertainment
Daedalic Entertainment, which acts as developer and publisher of the title, has reported losses of around 14 million euros recently after the low sales of A Year of Rain, whose launch on Steam has resulted in just over 5,000 copies in a full quarter With these figures, the estimated return on income has been negligible and one of the company’s partners, Bastei Lübbe (owner of 51% of the shareholding), declared that this situation left his participation “unsustainable” for the current business model.
“The business model of our 51% of the financial participation has proved unsustainable. Together with the minority group of shareholders, we will therefore examine all possible options to reposition Daedalic Entertainment and its business model, ”they said in the statement.
Hours after the news was known, Daedalic Entertainment has issued a reply before the alarm voices, which were the main video game affected by this collateral damage to The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. “The announcement issued by our main shareholder partner does not have a direct impact on the development of [The Lord of the Rings] Golum right now,” they underline.
However, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is still in development. This past January we knew the first details of the game, planned for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X, which will be based on Tolkien’s universe. The title is using Unreal Engine 4 and will tell “the story of Gollum from a perspective never seen before.” Its gameplay will feature action and stealth, deepening the double personality of the charismatic character. His departure is scheduled for 2021.
